Heat Treatment (PWHT)
Heat treatment is a controlled process used to alter the microstructure of metals and alloys to impart properties which benefit the working life of a component, for example increased surface hardness, temperature resistance, ductility and strength.
Heat treatment processes include hardening, tempering, annealing, normalising and stress relieving.
SST-NDT offers a bespoke solution to clients’ needs utilising our existing facilities to process a wide variety of component sizes and types to exact standards whilst ensuring reliable and repeatable results.

Localised PWHT
When it is not possible to place an entire component in a furnace for heat treatment due to the dimensions, geometry or the equipment is being installed onsite, then localised PWHT may be the only option. SST-NDT utilises electrical resistance systems using ceramic heating elements. Using only the highest quality equipment SST-NDT guarantees that all heat treatment work is carried out in accurately, reliably and in accordance with both the WPS and applicable codes.
Furnace PWHT
For large items or multiple components of the same material specifications, the most efficient and effective method of PWHT is through a furnace. SST-NDT can offer PWHT using its existing facilities or can offer a customised solution including both permanent and temporary furnaces.
